In the dead of summer it's not a nice place to be, but in early spring it's beautiful. There are these cool rock formations that jut out from the ground and we usually camp right near one. Sometimes while we're out there we visit Devil's Throat (big sink-hole), and some petroglyphs. This time I hiked up a hill with Jesse and watched my dad and brother hold a flag retiring ceremony and sat around the fire and roasted everything imaginable. Chris and Shawn and their kids were able to make it and it was awesome seeing them. I wish Ben & Tasha could have come too! It was Ailee's first camping trip, and she slept all through the night. I wish she'd do that at home! She was all snugly when she woke up.

camping

The Berry Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17110812719938093999noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16655488.post-39724393175014929532011-03-24T20:39:00.004-06:002011-03-24T21:42:56.610-06:00So I think I'm gonna post some stuff...Maddie turned 7!

We had a big party with friends for her at Pirate Island. I had a blast making her cake. I have to explain that one of our family's favorite shows to watch together is Cake Boss. I love the creativity and the family dynamics, Maddie loves the colorful cakes, and Dave just likes the sweets. So when I set out to make Maddie's birthday cake it was hard not to go overboard. I actually planned it well and wasn't in a crunch to get it done (whaaaat!?). Yeah. Maddie helped me put on the little sea-star flowers and the pirate. It was awesome when Maddie saw it all finished.

It was Maddie's first party with friends too, we usually just do a family get-together, so that was special. Her friend Michael came. Maddie informs us she is going to marry him.The Berry Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17110812719938093999noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16655488.post-37150314929067961462009-09-16T16:34:00.004-06:002009-09-17T13:05:50.653-06:00Yeaaah, that was purdy. The past few months have been eventful to say the least, between camping trip upon camping trip and house shopping (thanks Tay!) and buying, and painting, and moving....(oy!) time has been scarce.

Last month I got to go backpacking up and over Pine Valley Mountain, the lush mountain island in the middle of the hot, hot dessert. I got to hike it with the twins, who both entertained me and provided me with freeze dried goods from the storage room of mom and dads house before we left. You guys we have to go again soon! There were loads of pretty places to stop and take pics along Mill Canyon, Whipple Valley, and all trails in between.

The Berry Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17110812719938093999noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16655488.post-51849676067441896622008-12-18T09:24:00.004-07:002008-12-18T10:57:57.160-07:00Let it Snow X 3Snow three days in a row--ROCK No work today because of it even, and school was cancelled. I drove to my mommies house to visit the twins and jump on their beds and yell "snowday!" but they were already out playing in it. Go figure.

There hasn't been much happening around here besides hustle and bustle (mostly bustle) for the holidays and hiking and web-developing (that one's dave's) however I did make a thing for the wall.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 265px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgieHAO9BR7m6C0OZq_NtIydOSDGyS4zCihrjm9VPdYk4-SeD5ot2rM4cZdQNw_fz-AN4Tj8eb10CSoOQ3ldlk_qLNmL96UdNxrKx2pxf1kTHRGSoNfYMT0Nd4F3LuNyuBDKJBrZg/s320/ripbits.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5281190751198196194" />

I call it "rippy bits"! No actually I don't because it's cut not ripped, but I am shameless when it comes to spongebob squarepants references.

We went to an Aquabats concert at the electric theater recently. It wasn't quite as fun as the one we went to in salt lake when then had concertgoers racing inflatable rafts crowd-surf style across the venue and back, but it was still fun. We dressed up in obscenely colorful tracksuits in honor of Ricky Fitness once again.

I went hiking with Maddie, Amanda, and Sara last Saturday to Camelback out by Gunlock. It was too cold for any froggies to be out, but the weather was beautiful. Perfect for shadow pictures and running around in the vortex.

The Berry Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17110812719938093999noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16655488.post-88011538401311844062008-12-01T13:23:00.011-07:002008-12-01T15:54:36.609-07:00The year...in picturesQue the cheesy montage music! Hi blog. (and happy happy hair stuff)So I know I haven't exactly been all updatey lately. Forgive me?

We're all good, Dave is still dying to quit SkyWest to do freelance full time. He finished his bachelor's since last I wrote (more than a year ago!? that's sad). But, we want to squeeze in a trip to Ukraine (his mission area) before he gives up his flight benefits (P.S. my passport came yesterday). I'm still guiding hikes. It's still fun. Maddie still loves playing with her friends at pre-school more than helping me clean house. They're human hair so they can be curled or straightened along with my own. They were relatively cheap considering that having my own hair colored or having extensions weaved in would cost around $75-$100 and only last a few weeks. The clips are easy to put in and can be taken out at night. Probably the best thing about them is that I can put in a different color every day if I want without the trouble of bleaching my dark hair to ruination.

I got mine from this site: Extensions.com, but I have also seen similar extensions on ebay. Or maybe more like a hot dog. Thus far the summer has proved summerriffic. I only work three days a week, and I get home around 10:30 a.m. when I do, so by the time I’m all showered and dressed it’s like I didn’t work at all. ‘course, if I wasn’t working I’d probably be sleeping in till around 9:00 and then mulling around in my jammies until about 10:30 , so it all evens out. I love my early morning work schedule. If I didn’t have work to get me up early every other weekday I’d pout about how I never get up early enough to enjoy the cool mornings. The heat kinda depresses me.

WOO! We went out to Sand Hollow reservoir last Saturday for the FR employee pick nick. It was shenanigans. Living up to her title of “drama queen” Maddie had a grand old time decked out in her floaties and tube kicking out beyond the shallow water towards the bigger kids and calling “heeow me! Heeow heeow!” (heeow= help). They totally fell for it and offered to tug her back to shore. Little did they know she just wanted free rides. All three of us took a ride on the wave runner. It was windy and the water was choppy, but we didn’t tip luckily, then we sent Dave out on his own so he could be all stunt-tastic without us. I got sunburned because I didn’t put on sunblock, though I made sure Maddie and Dave did. I hung out with Laura later and she put aloe vera stuff on me a whole bunch.

Apparently the effects of the lake trip wore Maddie out for two whole days afterward. Here’s her trying to stay awake in the car (this one’s for you Spence-O)

Ah, I can’t believe I’m already tired of summer. Even the forf of Juwy isn’t making me all giddy with anticipation like it usually does. I kinda just want school to start again and make it cool off. C’ept then I remember that I don’t have any creative classes going on, just Spanish, and then after that Spanish 2. Maybe I’ll have to try and wedge Intro to Illustrator in there somewhere just to keep me sane. Until then artsy fartsy projects’ll just have to hold me over. I’m currently making a rainforest-y depiction for Maddie's room. Check it out, I get to use mod-podge. I KNOW!

In closing, I can't believe my last post had snow in it. *tear*The Berry Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17110812719938093999noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16655488.post-36889654383291338252007-03-01T19:13:00.000-07:002007-03-02T06:49:02.624-07:00like a virginMy birthday day in Vegas was exceedingly fun, and filled with firsts. We ate lunch at in-n-out and had animal style french fries for the first time ever. Previously, only animal style burgers have graced our arteries. a'course, first I had to stop at Carl's Jr. for two side salads with balsamic vinaigrette because I didn't want to fill up on junk. I got my first ear piercings while Dave watched and inwardly giggled at me while the lady was drawing and re-drawing the dots on my ears. I briefly considered gambling for my first time ever, but we weren't anywhere near any slots the whole time we were down there. We had dinner at Eliseevsky, a Russian restaurant, for Dave's Valentines present. I felt slightly out of place because almost everyone in there was speaking Russian. Vegas has a tiny Russian community, who knew? We shared an order of Pelmini (meat dumplings with hot sour cream) and I had shashlik, it's basically a pork kabob with really extremely good sauce (Me and Dave determined that the sauce was tomato based, but besides that we couldn't even begin to guess what else is in it). We were able to squeeze in some dessert this time, we had crepes with warm strawberries and cream filling. With the live music (a petite little blonde russian woman dressed kinda funky played an accordian...thing?)it ended up being kinda romantic. We spent two and a half hours at dinner, but it didn't feel like we were there that long.

For my birthday I got a gift card, which I used to buy some leopard print ballet flats. Surprisingly they go with almost everything. Laura got me some earrings (she knew I'd be getting my ears pierced), and Dave gave me a really great time and some pierced ears.

Midterm exam last night. I studied and aced. This week I have to get cracking on designing a logo for my made up company. They do high end custom cabinetry. I was thinking of doing a really simple image of woodworking. I have no idea if I'll be able to pull that off though so I need to come up with some alternate ideas.

Yesterday I worked. We hiked through Snow Canyon State Park, which is where most of our hikes are. Snow Canyon, named after Lorenzo and Erastus Snow, not for it's abundance of frozen precipitation, was uncharacteristically filled with the cold white stuff yesterday. I got some pictures while I was on the hike. I was sad that my camera wasn't picking up the red in the rocks very well. Red rocks and snow: in my opinion one of the prettiest sights to behold.

The night before the big snow I had been online playing World Of Warcraft with Dave (sometimes we play with Alan from across town). My character is an elf, but since the Lunar Festival was going on I got to travel (via Lunar portal) to any of the major alliance cities. I went to Ironforge, the dwarven City in the mountain. Outside Ironforge is a wintery white snow-filled forest, so me and my pet bear tromped around in the snow (we even left foot and paw prints wherever we went) and chatted with dwarves that called me "lass". Anyhow, when me and Dave went to bed that night Dave shrieked and asked why my feet were so freezing. My reply was something about how me and Bear had been running around in the snow all night. I was unimaginably tickled the next day to be hiking through so much real snow.

ah! I almost forgot. Alan was in an offroad motorcycle race and we went and watched the beginning (only the beginning because we had to leave early for yet another visit to the emergency room because Dave accidentally gave maddie what the doctor and nurse called "nursemaids elbow", but that's a story for another day). It was cool to see the insane amount of motorcycles lined up far away and then hear the roar of the motors as they kicked up a cloud of dust on their way towards us. I got pictures.

far away in the distance you can barely see the mass of motorcycles lined up.

My brother’s wife, her little boy (in the back carrier) and little girl, maddie, the twins, me. They used to be called The Body Shop, but have recently changed their name to Fitness Ridge Resort. I train for two weeks and then I can lead. It was overcast and windy on the first day. Some snow got blown down from the north so we even got snowed on for about 15 minutes. That was especially cool because two of the guests had never seen falling snow before. The job makes me a little nervous, not the hiking part(paid to hike--boyhowdy!), but the interacting with guests part. It's widely known I'm not exactly charismatic. But, every job I've done has taught me something so maybe this is my chance to learn better conversation-with-strangers skills. I took my camera, but I only got one picture.

That's my boss. He just happened to be in front of the good scenery.

I work only three days a week. In the summer it will be extra good because they start hikes at 6:30am and get done at 9:30am. I love being done early.

Last night I was singing "Spanish Flea" Homer Simpson style. (I'll try to find a clip and put it in the entry. If you have your speakers on and can't hear it...I failed.)
Dave asked me if I knew what band played the song. I correctly guessed The Tijauana Brass. Next he asked me if I knew the main guy's name. I guessed the first thing that came to my mind, which happened to be "Phil Harpert". His puzzled response of "um, good guess" was hilarious. For a second he looked at me as though he wasn't sure whether to be happy that I was so close, or disturbed at how bad I mangled Herb Alpert's name.

-AnnieThe Berry Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17110812719938093999noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16655488.post-1167456310084111132006-12-29T22:05:00.000-07:002006-12-29T22:25:20.666-07:00Crith-muuuth!Christmas 'round these parts was pretty sweet. We had an exceptional Christmas eve dinner with Dave's parents. Christmas morning was cozy. Me and Dave woke up in our Christmas present to each other: a new bedframe (it's so cozy-looking, I'll post a picture when I find my camera) which somehow makes our humble traded mattresses feel like a whole different experience and definitely brightens up our room. Maddie woke up to find a tent, teepee, and tunnel playset (she opened most of her other gifts at grandma and grandpa's the night before). Late Christmas morning we were found opening a few more gifts at my mom and dad's house, and then feasting on my dad's famous pancake, bacon, eggs-made-to-order, and ham breakfast. My contribution was fruit and yogurt parfaits with whipped cream. That night we had a bit of a Christmas variety show. Me and Laura sang, Cooper led us in the game "going on a bear hunt" My dad read a poem, and Maddie and Elyza sang "once there was a snowman". From there all the family chilled, popping in to my parent's house now and again to play games and help eat their Christmas goodies.

I can't beleive Christmas break is almost over! I'm just glad I survived last semester. I feel like such a wimp speaking in terms of survival when I was only taking three classes. Next semester should be less hectic, I'll only be taking one class, Computer Design, which is the pre-req to computer illustration.

We're going up to Zion's for a picnic tomorrow, and Dave got some sponsor passes to First Night since SkyWest sponsors it, so we'll be headed out to that tomorrow night.

BTW, I lost my camera, so the I only have one Christmassy picture to post from before it got lost (sorry Spencer!) Hope everyone had a good Christmas, have a happy New year!

The Berry Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17110812719938093999noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16655488.post-1165024389335180942006-12-01T17:23:00.000-07:002006-12-29T21:58:38.516-07:00Halloween Catch-upI apologize for the lack of updating. I'll do my best with this post. I've had a rather embarassing accident involving me trying to roll-start my car, and my finger getting smashed between the open car door and the stucco entry-way of the garage. It hard for me to type. BUT the cool thing is that my cast resembles a gun in dim lighting. Also, being an invalid gives me a bit of extra time to do stuff like post on our blog!

Man, I have got to work on my mean face.

Dave has been working at SkyWest. Last year he transferred from his position at the airport down to the corporate offices to work in the graphics department and has been enjoying his job. I've finally started taking classes at DSC again. Our deal was that I'd go back to school when Dave was finished, but since it's been a few years since we made that deal and he now has the same amount of classes left as he did back then, we decided I'd go back and we'd finish together. Maddie, School, and the occasional shift cover at Great Harvest have been keeping me pretty busy. School has been stressing me out, but I try to remind myself how much I ached to be in school last year and that gives me the perspective I need to keep at it.

Maddie continues to be a tremendous cutie pie. She's still a chatter-box, but she now says a good amount of real words along with the incomprehensible ones. She will often pretend to be Kiki (the young witch from one of her favorite movies) while pretending to mount a broomstick, or walk around the house in my heels and proclaim "I'n Mommee!".

We bought a generically cute fairy costume for her to wear on Halloween but she refused to let us put it on her for cubicle trick-or-treating at Dave's office. Instead she carried the frilly thing around with her fairy wand and treat bag, wearing only green tights and a shirt.

Later in the evening we bribed her with candy and she let us put it on her so we could trick-or-treat the most festive house in the neighborhood.

Maddie and her cousin Elyza palled around in various displays of cuteness for most of the evening.

The Berry Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17110812719938093999noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16655488.post-1151624514341624892006-06-29T17:37:00.000-06:002006-06-29T17:44:52.530-06:00Maddie CollageI totally made a video collage of maddie. "Whatever. Say I was discouraged. I haven't abondoned it." he says as she cruelly transcibes every word onto the screen. MWAHAHA!

So anyway, I'm sort of taking over for the time being. There's really nothing much new. I still work at Great Harvest, Dave still works at SkyWest, Maddie's vocabulary is still made up mostly of the words "Uh-Ooooh" and Ooo-Weeee". BUT we do have a new family picture.

Enjoy this one. You can't tell by our happy smiling faces, but the few moments preceding the split second in which the picture was snapped were a trying few. Maddie wasn't in much of a mood to sit still and have her picture snapped, which in turn put her mom and dad in a similar mood. In the end it was Dave's quick thinking, and unnaturally strong (I'm talking popeye here) arms that saved us all. He tossed Maddie up in the air a couple times just before the camera lady snapped the picture. This practice succeeded in extracting a cooperatively happy face from everyone involved. The Berry Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17110812719938093999noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16655488.post-1129181091884159602005-10-12T23:01:00.000-06:002006-12-18T16:54:25.406-07:00Random stuffArchimedes Death Ray
The site loads extremely slow (too many pictures). Annie did AWESOME in the St. George Marathon! Her official time was 03:57:28. And that was her FIRST time! Well what can I say she is an incredible woman. Now she is trying to get me to run it, maybe if I can get my butt in gear to get in shape I'll do it. I need an iPod though. ;) Some of my friends are trying to get me to run it, like I always say, "We'll see."

I've got the job I've been wanting for about three years now. I'm the flash developer at SkyWest airlines, and I love it! As of right now I've been working on php/flash integration. Its fun. Annie is running the St. George Marathon. We are excited and a little nervous. It will be fun watching her run though, I'll be there with her family cheering her on. Good Luck Annie!!!
Annie is so great! She has been training long and hard for tomorrow. Everymorning she's been getting up before the butt-crack of dawn running 5, 10, 20 miles. What amazes me is that after any amount of running she does, she doesn't seem tired! What can I say, she's got spunk, and bubbleties! I love her.

Today was my last day at the airport. I'm transferring to SkyWest's headquarters as a graphic designer. I'm way excited, I finally get weekends off and holidays, and the pay is better. WOO HOO!!!

Maddie is as cute as ever I'll be posting more pics soon on flickr, and I'll post some here too.The Berry Familyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17110812719938093999noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-16655488.post-1126552814391147362005-09-12T14:19:00.000-06:002005-09-12T13:25:56.926-06:00Our New Home on the NetMy mail/web server finally took a turn for the worse. I believe the hard drive decided it was time for a permanate vacation. I would have a moment of silence for it, but the darn thing didn't even give me a warning. I guessed I learned a valuable lesson... and that is.... umm... Never eat yellow snow. Its a good thing I had a back up of all my files.

This will be the new berryjournal.com so everything will be posted here now.
